If you have a day when you feel like you have no time to cook, then try this super easy, buttery and delicious Creamy Chicken and Orzo Pancake! This is a rich, hearty dinner that's perfect for those days when you don't want to spend any time in the cooking. It cooks all in one pan. What more could you want?
What is Orzo?
Orzo, a small pasta in the shape of a football that cooks faster than rice. It absorbs all the water that it is cooked in so there's no need to drain it. This makes it a great choice for a quick one-pan dinner.
What you'll need
Just a few ingredients and spices will make an amazing dinner. You'll need the following ingredients to make Creamy Chicken and Orzo Skillet.
- Seasoning blend - We make our own using paprika oregano thyme garlic powder onion powder and pepper. You can use a generous tablespoon of your favorite spice blend in a pinch. However, avoid anything too salty.
- Boneless chicken thighs- These cook faster than bone-in thighs, and their juices flavor orzo.
- Yellow onion- Gives the dish depth and subtle sweetness.
- Garlic - Adds depth to the dish and gives it a nuttiness.
- Orzo - This pasta cooks fast and adds bulk. If you can't find orzo, try substituting it with another quick-cooking type of pasta such as ditalini. You can use rice but adjust the cooking time.
- Vegetable Broth - This broth is perfect for cooking orzo without overwhelming the dish. You can replace it with chicken broth or water.
- Cream - Creates an velvety, creamy sauce.
- Butter - This butter helps to bring the sauce together.
- Parmesan_ Adds depth to the sauce and adds a hint of saltiness. It gives it texture.
What can you serve with Creamy Chicken and Orzo?
This creamy Chicken Orzo Skillet is great with a side salad of fresh vegetables or roasted vegetables. You can choose from:
- Mediterranean White Bean Salad
- Creamy Cucumber Salad
- Balsamic Roasted Mushrooms
How to Store Leftovers
Orzo absorbs much of the creamy sauce in which it is cooked, but leftovers still taste great. Keep in the refrigerator for up to four days, in an airtight container. Do this within 2 hours of cooking your dish. If you leave chicken at room temperature for more than two hours, it can contain harmful bacteria that could cause food poisoning. In an airtight container, you can freeze leftovers up to two months. Thaw overnight in the refrigerator and then reheat in a microwave or stovetop until the chicken is steamed.

How to make Creamy Chicken and Orzo Skillet: Step by step photos
In a small bowl, combine 1 teaspoon of paprika with 1 teaspoon of dried oregano and 1 teaspoon of dried thyme. Add 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder, half teaspoons onion powder, 1/4 teaspoon pepper, and 1/2 teaspoons salt. Mix until combined.
Dry the 1,25 pounds of chicken legs with a paper-towel, and then liberally season them on both sides with the seasoning mix.
Heat a large deep skillet over medium. Add 2 tablespoons cooking oil once the pan is hot. Cook the chicken thighs, seasoned with salt and pepper for about five minutes. Flip the chicken over and repeat this process on the other. Place the chicken on a plate and remove it from the pan. When the chicken is simmered along with orzo, it will finish cooking.
Add the onion dices and two cloves of garlic minced to the skillet. Saute the onions until they are translucent. This should take about 3 minutes.
Stir well to dissolve crispy bits at the bottom of pan. Add 1/2 cup of orzo to skillet. Return the chicken back to the pan, nestling it into the orzo.
Put a lid over the pan, increase the heat to medium high, and allow the broth to come to a boil. Reduce the heat to low. Let the skillet simmer about 15 minutes, or until the most of the liquid has been absorbed. If it ever stops simmering, turn up the heat a little until it begins to simmer again.
Orzo will be ready after 15 minutes. The broth should have been absorbed and the sauce left in the pan. Remove the chicken from skillet.
Add the butter and cream to the pan. Stir and heat on low until the butter melts, and the cream becomes hot.
Add the 1/4 cup of parmesan cheese and mix well.
Return the chicken to skillet. You can garnish the dish with Italian parsley if you wish. Combine with a salad or roasted vegetables for a filling meal. It was so easy!

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Thai spice used for?
It's a term we all have heard, even though we don't know what it actually means. When we taste it, our mouths water and we wonder why we aren't eating more.
It's much more than a spice. It's an ingredient that can add flavor and depth in dishes that otherwise would be bland.
While there are thousands of Thai-inspired recipes out there, few of them contain the real thing. Let's learn how to include these delicious flavors in your meals.
Thais have been cooking with herbs, spices and other flavors since ancient times. Thai is the Sanskrit word that means "to cook".
Today, Thais still love spicy food. This preference can be attributed to Thailand’s hot weather. It is difficult to stay warm when you don't have something to drink. Thais are also more likely to consume chili peppers as compared to Americans or Europeans.
Visit a local Asian grocery shop to find out more about Thai spices. You'll find many ingredients there, including fresh basil leaves, dried chilies and curry paste.
Also, you may find whole peppercorns.
Thai cuisine uses both dry and wet spices. Dry spices are usually ground, while wet ones are crushed or pounded finely.
Dry spices are often added to a dish directly. For example, you can sprinkle ground red pepper onto your chicken soup. A paste is made by combining wet spices and oil with butter or butter.
Wet spices are used in dressings, sauces and marinades. Common wet spices include oyster sauce, fish sauce and sesame oils, curry paste, hoisin sauce, and sesame seed oil.
Thai recipes can be prepared at home by knowing which spices pair well with what ingredients.
Red pepper flakes are recommended for beef. If you use seafood like shrimp, you should use white pepper instead.
Finally, you can always order online if you don't have access to a good quality Asian market. This market has everything you need, including dried chilies as well as exotic herbs and spices.
These Thai recipes will make you hungry next time!
Almond Flour or Almond Meal? What is the difference?
An almond meal, which can be used as an almond flour substitute, is more versatile than other almond flours because it can be used for baking and cooking, as well as making nut free dishes.
Almond flour can also contain gluten which makes it more difficult to digest. It's important to avoid gluten-free diets if your condition is celiac.
While almond flour isn't considered a "superfood" per se, it contains healthy fats, fibre, protein, and vitamin E. It's also low in calories and sodium and contains no cholesterol.
The nutritional benefits of the almond meal include magnesium, copper, iron, zinc, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, calcium, and vitamins A, B1 (thiamin), and C. In addition, it provides 25 percent of the daily value for folate, 20 percent for niacin, 15 percent for pantothenic acid, and 5 percent for riboflavin.
Almond flour is made of almonds. Almond oil is made from polyunsaturated, monounsaturated, fatty oils. Both types reduce LDL (bad) cholesterol and increase HDL ("good") cholesterol.
Almond flour is also rich in antioxidants such as flavonoids and phenolics. These compounds protect against free radical-induced oxidative harm.
The Journal of Agricultural Food Chemistry published a study that found almond flour to have the same antioxidant activity as blueberries, cranberries and pomegranates.
Almond flour is usually sold alongside almond milk, fortified with additional nutrients.
Is Paprika used in Thai food?
Yes. It is a key ingredient in many dishes, such as Pad See Ew (Thai-fried rice), made from eggs cooked with coconut milk.
Thai cuisine, Mexican, Spanish and Indian food, as well as Thai and Balkan dishes, contain paprika.
Paprika can be traced back over 5,000 years ago to Ancient Greece. The Hungarian language "pepper" is the origin of "paprika".
What are 7 Indian spices?
Indian spices are a collection of spices used in Indian cuisine. They usually include cardamom (also known by hing), cumin, turmeric, coriander, fenugreek, ginger, and asafoetida. Spices add flavour to dishes by blending natural ingredients like meats, vegetables and spices. Combining spices creates unique flavour profiles that make Indian food so special.
Cardamom has a sweet and pungent taste with hints of citrus and ginger. It is used often to flavor curries and rice dishes such as biryani. Cumin has an earthy, rich aroma and a nutty flavor. It's often used in curries, dals, and meat dishes. Coriander's sweet, citrus aroma adds a subtle sweetness to dishes. It is commonly used to season vegetables, lentils, and other foods.
Turmeric has an earthy taste with mustard, spices, hints of pepper. This spice is commonly used in curries and other dishes and has a golden hue. Fenugreek's aroma is rich and has earthy tones. It is commonly used to season meat dishes, such as kebabs and curry. It is spicy and pungent with citrus hints. It gives a great kick to soups, curries, and chutneys. Asafoetida is a spice that has strong flavors and a pungent smell.
These spices produce unique flavors, which make Indian cooking distinctive.
Which Thai spice do I need to cook Thai food at home?
To make authentic Thai food at home, you'll need to master five essential spices: black pepper, cayenne, coriander seeds, turmeric, and cinnamon. Each ingredient has a unique flavor profile and plays an essential role in creating delicious dishes.
Cinnamon adds sweetness, while black pepper brings out savoury flavours. Coriander seeds give curry powder its distinctive yellow colour, while turmeric adds a spicy kick. Cayenne peppers heat up the dish, while cilantro adds flavor and freshness. Finally, cinnamon adds depth and complexity to any dish.
Each of these spices can be found at your local grocery, but you may prefer to buy them online.
What are the spices, condiments and seasonings Thailand uses in its dishes?
Thai cuisine is a mix of Asian influences. Its roots lie in India, China, and Southeast Asia.
Freshness is the main ingredient in Thai cuisine. Ingredients that are quickly cooked and picked at the right time will have more flavour. This is why meat, fish and vegetables, as well fruits, vegetables, herbs, seeds, and nuts are often eaten raw, then heated.
Spices and sauces enhance the flavor and complexity of dishes. Fresh basil, cilantro, mint, coriander (cilantro), lemongrass, ginger, turmeric, garlic, chillies, chilli paste, soy sauce, tamarind juice, oyster sauce, palm sugar, coconut milk, lime leaves, galangal root, curry powder, shrimp paste, fish sauce, tamarind water, rice vinegar, etc. are commonly used.

How To
How to choose which spices to buy
To cook, you'll need to know how to choose the right herbs and spices for your recipes. There are hundreds to choose from, so where should you start when choosing the right ones for your pantry?
There are three main factors to consider when choosing spices: flavour profile, shelf life, and cost. Depending on whether you are cooking meat, fish, vegetables or pasta, the flavour profiles of spices will vary. Once you have decided on a category you will need to narrow your options based on the differences.
Shelf lives vary greatly too. Some spices keep forever, while some others are prone to deterioration quickly. For example, cayenne pepper is good for years and oregano lasts only two months. Price is another important factor. Spices can cost anywhere from $1 per tablespoon up to $100 per ounce. This means you need to balance quality and price.
Also, consider whether organic or not organic ingredients. Organic products contain fewer chemicals and pesticides than conventional alternatives, making them better for your health and the environment. You'll have to balance the benefits and costs of organic products.
Shopping online is the best way to ensure you pick the right spices for your kitchen. Online retailers provide extensive information about each product including reviews, prices, ratings and ratings.
After narrowing down your options, you can place an order directly with the retailer. Once you receive your items, store them safely in airtight containers away from heat and light.
